Cupping

In ancient time of China, cupping was another type of treatment used. The horn cup and the ceramic cup were used in this method. Today, a variation of cups are commonly used, such as those made from glass or bamboo.

There are different methods to this treatment including fire cupping, water cupping, and air cupping. All methods create a partial vacuum over the affected area, or meridian, which has become congested. This causes increase blood flow and opens the meridians, enhancing Qi and promoting the healing process. Generally, the cup is left on the affected area for about 15 minutes or less until blood flow improves. Even today, this method is still used due to it's effectiveness and because it is not invasive.
